Breaking ground at Bedford Greenacre Independent School
Lungfish Architects were delighted to join staff, pupils and trustees of Bedford Greenacre Independent (BGI) School in early January 2024 for the official ground breaking ceremony of their new site to the North West of Bedford.
The move into the new building upon completion will be the culmination of the merger of Rushmoor School and St Andrew’s School which took place in 2021. Currently operating across the sites of the two former schools, Bedford Greenacre Independent School Principal, Ian Daniel, said the move signals the “final piece of that merger”.
Delivered in partnership with Pellikaan Construction, the design for the new school consists of one and two storey blocks, with a subterranean level at the centre of the building, offering fantastic views down the valley. Due for completion in the 2024/25 academic year, the all-through school will become home to the two schools' 560 pupils and offer an additional 120 school places.

The co-educational school will provide a wonderful setting for our pupils, from Reception through to Sixth Form, to learn and enjoy their school life.
The modern new premises are all about building for the future, providing our current and future pupils with the facilities and space they deserve and incorporating environmentally friendlier operations”.
Ian Daniel, Principal of Bedford Greenacre Independent School
The new building is designed to create an inspiring and progressive learning environment that compliments the values of a unique independent school
Set within 40-acres, the all-through school will be domestic in scale and sensitive to the surrounding rural setting
It's fantastic to mark this momentous occasion of our flagship project with the school's staff, pupils and Trustees.
The January sunshine offered up the fantastic views that the 40-acre school site has to offer, and we look forward to progressing the project and seeing pupils benefit from their new building in the next academic year."
